Clarification of reported issues with online SDLT filing using relief codes 34 and 35

13th July 2015

We have sought clarification following recent confusion as a result of the Law Society publishing reports of conveyancers experiencing issues inputting relief codes 34 and 35 when filing online stamp duty land tax (SDLT) payments.

HMRC has confirmed that the problem is to do with users of their own online SDLT web system only. This is not an issue with’s applications.

Please continue to use systems using relief codes 34 and 35 where applicable as submissions using our system will be correctly submitted and processed.

HMRC have said they will address this issue in their own system on 27th July.

For those using HMRC’s own web filing system who need to use relief codes 34 and 35 and can't wait until then, rather than go through the bother of following the work around proposed by the Law Society; simply register with and we will let you submit your SDLT return for free (up to 3 free returns).
