March 2012 - First-time buyer's stamp duty relief ends 25 March 2012

24.03.2012 - The First time buyer relief introduced in the Finance Bill 2010 ends on 25th March 2012. Any returns made where the effective date is after 24th March 2012 will be subject to the standard stamp duty thresholds.

Practitioners are asked to ensure that from this date any first time buyer returns where the value of the property is over £125,000, and which has not currently been submitted to HMRC, do not have the old relief code 32 present (in Question 9 on the SDLT1 form).
